how to remove and change blades

I have a craftsman circular saw that is approx 15 yrs old. I am unable to tighten the blade or remove to replace with a different blade. there ia a 1/2 inch nut on the outerside but no way to hold the inner washers tight to break the seal. I believe there is some sort of wrench that I should have but don't have. Is there another way to change blade, or order the wrinch? Thankyou

  • Removing Blade on Circular Saw

    Try using a piece of 2x4 to hold the saw blade from turning, then use an adjustable wrench, or box-end wrench to turn the nut, clockwise.

  • I'm Stuck With Same Problem

    I have the exact same saw and am also trying to replace the blade. I've been able to secure the existing blade from moving but when I go to turn the outside nut with my socket wrench it just turns and turns no matter if I go clockwise or counterclockwise. Any ideas?

  • I finally Got My Old Blade Off

    I had to use a pair of needle nosed vice grips on the washer that touches the outside of the blade and then my socket wrench to finally get the bolt loose and undone. Apparently this saw is different that most in that you have to turn the bolt counterclockwise (just like a regular bolt) in order to loosen it. Be patient and lock those vice grips down tight. It took me about 6 tries because the vice grips kept slipping and coming loose (not much for them to grab).
