Overview
The Battery Kit MPA-BT1A is a kit for use with the Sony Digital Photo
Printer DPP-MP1. With this kit, you can use the DPP-MP1 in places where
AC power is unavailable. The following items are included in the kit:
Battery case
Battery charger
Four AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries
Note
The initial battery charge is very weak, so be sure to charge the batteries before using
them.
Charging the Batteries
Be sure to charge all four Ni-MH rechargeable batteries together, until they
are fully charged.
Do not use batteries other than the ones provided with this kit or specified in
this guide.
It takes approximately 230 minutes to charge four empty Ni-MH
rechargeable batteries.
1 Insert the four Ni-MH rechargeable batteries into the battery
charger.
Make sure that the 3 and # electrodes are all oriented as illustrated
below.
2 Insert the power plug into the AC outlet.
Confirm that the charge indicator lamp comes on.
During charging, you may hear a faint hum. This is normal. This noise
should be unnoticeable at distances greater than about one meter.
U.S.A. and Canada Other Countries
When the charge lamp blinks, it indicates that the battery charger
contains one or more batteries that have reached the end of their service
life or otherwise cannot be charged.
It takes approximately 230 minutes to charge four completely
discharged Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. When charging ends, the
charge lamp goes out.
3 Pull the power plug out of the AC outlet.
For customers in the U.S.A. and Canada:
Pull the battery charger out of the AC outlet and fold the power plug
into the retracted position.
For customers in other countries:
Grab the power plug and pull it out of the AC outlet. Do not pull the
cord to perform this operation.
4 Remove the batteries from the battery charger.
Installing the Battery Case
1 While pushing button (1), slide the cover off the battery case
(2).

2 Insert the four Ni-MH rechargeable batteries as illustrated
below. Insert the # end first and then the 3 end.
Notes
Make sure that the 3 and # electrodes are all oriented correctly.
Make sure that the batteries are securely inserted.
3 Slide the battery case cover back until you hear a click.
4 Remove the DPP-MP1 battery connector cover.
5 Insert the battery case hooks into the slots of the DPP-MP1
(1), and then lower the battery case into the DPP-MP1
battery connector (2).

6 Fasten the DPP-MP1 battery connector cover to the side of
the battery case.
7 Tighten the battery case retaining screw.
Notes
Correct operation of the DPP-MP1 is not guaranteed when using batteries other than
the ones provided with this kit or specified in this guide.
Be sure to read the precautions in the battery charger user’s guide before use.

Make sure that the batteries are oriented correctly in the battery case.
Make sure that the battery case cover is closed before using the DPP-MP1.
When the DPP-MP1 is idle for about 3 minutes, it turns off automatically (auto-off
function).
Print Capacity
Using four charged AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries allows you to print
about 24 photos successively. (When printing at 60% gray, at room
temperature with new batteries.)
Notes
The actual number of images that can be printed depends on the images and the
ambient temperature during printing.
Be sure to use four charged AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries when printing photos.
If the charge is low, you may not be able to print even one image.
Remaining Charge Indicator
When you are using Ni-MH rechargeable batteries to operate the DPP-MP1,
you can monitor the remaining charge of the batteries from the DPP-MP1
display (remaining charge indicator) as indicated below.
Display Meaning
u
The charge of the batteries is sufficient to print normally.
t
The charge of the batteries is only sufficient to print a few more
pictures. The power turns off when the charge is exhausted during
printing. To avoid this, we recommend that you recharge the batteries
before use.
e
The batteries are empty. Printing is not possible. Recharge the Ni-MH
rechargeable batteries or connect the AC adapter before printing.
Notes
Use the remaining charge indicator to monitor the remaining charge of the Ni-MH
rechargeable batteries. The accuracy of the remaining charge indicator can be
affected by operating or environmental conditions.
When the remaining charge indicator flashes, printing is not possible.
Rechargeable batteries sometimes do not charge to full capacity when first purchased
or after long disuse, resulting in sub-optimal performance. If this occurs, please
recharge the batteries as soon as possible.
When the remaining charge indicator flashes
Make sure that you are using batteries that are compatible with the DPP-
MP1. Batteries such as manganese dry or alkaline dry batteries are not
compatible with the DPP-MP1.
When you use the DPP-MP1 in cold weather, make sure that the Ni-MH
rechargeable batteries are warm. If the batteries are cold, warm them with
your hands before use.
Make sure that the battery case connector and battery electrodes are clean.
If the connector or electrodes are dirty, clean them with a cotton swab.
Make sure the Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are not exhausted.
Removing the Batteries
To remove the Ni-MH rechargeable batteries from the battery case, place
your fingers as illustrated below and push them out one by one.

Note
Ordinarily, AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries can be recharged about 500 times.
However, the number of effective charges may be lower when the batteries are used
with the DPP-MP1. If the number of prints you can make is small even when the
batteries are fully charged, replace the Ni-MH rechargeable batteries with new ones.

Charging other types of batteries may cause them to explode or leak causing
personal injury or property damage.

Caution
Battery charger is designed for indoor use only. The plug should be
disconnected from the mains after charging or when the charger is not in
use.
Do not drop the charger or put heavy load on the charger.
Do not disassemble or reassemble.
The batteries may be hot after charging. Wait until the batteries have cooled
before removing.
Children should only use this charger under about supervision.
Use of batteries other than those specified may cause electrolyte leaks or
explosions. To avoid such accidents, use only the specified batteries.
To avoid electrolyte leaks and corrosion, remove batteries from equipment if
it is not to be used for an extended period of time.
Instruction for the use of Ni-MH rechargeable batteries
The batteries used for the first time have to be charged. The contact surface
of the batteries and the charger must always be kept clean.
After being fully discharged or after storage for more than 6 mouths, the
several charging and discharging should be done in order to activate the
cells.
Rechargeable batteries are constructed so that they are not damaged by
occasional overcharging at the standard charging rate of approximately one
tenth of the battery capacity. However, continual overcharging may
significantly reduce the battery’s life.
Do not expose to water, Do not heat or dispose of in fire.
Do not tear of the label jacket. Do not disassemble or reassemble.
Do not short-circuit. To avoid short-circuit, keep the batteries away from all
metal object (e.g.coins, hair-pins, key, etc.)

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class

designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a
residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio

Instructions pour l’utilisation des piles rechargeables Ni-MH
Les piles neuves doivent être chargées. La surface de contact des piles et le
chargeur doivent toujours être propres.
Lorsque les piles ont été complètement déchargées ou après les avoir
rangées pendant plus de 6 mois, il faut les charger et les décharger plusieurs
fois afin de les activer.
Les piles rechargeables sont fabriquées de façon à ce qu’elles ne soient pas
endommagées par une surcharge occasionnelle à un taux de charge normal
d’environ 1/10ième de la capacité de la pile. Par contre, une surcharge
continuelle risque de réduire d’une manière considérable la durée de vie de
la pile.
Ne pas exposer à l’eau. Ne pas chauffer ou jeter dans le feu.
Ne pas déchirer l’étiquette de protection de la pile. Ne pas démonter ou
remonter la pile.
Ne pas court-circuiter. Pour éviter les courts-circuits, éloigner les piles des
objets métalliques (par exemple, les pièces de monnaie, les pinces à
cheveux, les clés, etc..)

Instrucciones para utilizar las pilas Ni-MH
Las pilas que se utilicen por primera vez deberán ser cargadas. La superficie
de contacto entre las pilas y el cargador siempre deberá estar limpia.
Después de haberse descargado completamente o después de haber
estado guardadas durante más de 6 meses, las pilas deberán cargarse y
descargarse varias veces para activar los elementos.
Las pilas han sido fabricadas para que no se estropeen al sobrecargarlas de
vez en cuando al régimen de carga estándar de aproximadamente una
décima de la capacidad de las pilas. Sin embargo, la sobrecarga continua
podrá reducir considerablemente la duración de las pilas.
No exponga las pilas al agua. No las caliente ni las tire al fuego.
No rompa la cubierta. No las desarme ni vuelva a armar.
No las cortocircuite. Para evitar los cortocircuitos, mantenga las pilas
alejadas de los objetos metálicos como, por ejemplo, monedas, horquillas
