Is there any recommended service for the air compressor motor on a model 919.165220. When mine start up it sounds like the rods are knocking for a short time then it seems to quite down and run smooth. Thanks Dan

0 When an "oiless" compressor is making noise on startup, if endplay of the armature is excessive, the piston rods will sometimes bind up. This can also happen when the connecting rods are just a little bit out of position. If you can live with it, as long as it is short duration- just run with it. If it is a bit of annoyance: unplug motor, then loosen the rods so they can slip on the bearing they clamp to, gently rotate the motor and tweak the rod position on the bearings until there is no interference. It sometimes can be time consuming to get them just right, but once set up, tighten the clamp bolts back down and it should run quietly. If it is a number of years old, check that the bearings can turn, and check to see if there is much play in them.
