the small spring on my craftsman belt sander broke. It controls the tension on the front roller to and allows adjustment of the sanding belt. I got a new spring from sears, however, I have the spring ready and in place but the top of the spring shaft is straight and needs to be flared or widened. It is hard steel and I'm wondering how this can be done. I don't see any way to install it without doing this. Any ideas? Craftsman model 315.117130 Spring # 998375-001
