king 8449 compressor just hums...

after being idle this winter, the unit only hums when i plug it in what could be wrong

0 I HAVE FOUND THAT THE CONTROL BOX CAN BE ADJUSTED (FIDDLED WITH) TO GET A BETTE PERFORMANCE. REMOVE THE COVER BY LOOSENING THE FASTENER SCREW ON THE COVER AND TILTED IT AWAY FROM AND OFF THE THE COMPRESSOR. ADJUST ONLY THE CHROME COLOURED SET SCREW COUNTER CLOCK WISE TO LOWER THE START AND CUT-OUT RANGE. LIFT THE RED LEVER AND DROP IT AGAIN AND THEN PRESS THE BLACK RESTART BUTTON ON THE BACK OF THE MOTOR.
