mitering 6 in. baseboard...

HE SAW CANNOT MITER 6 INCH BASEBOARD IN VERTICAL POSITION. THE PLASTIC BLADE GUARD HITS THE BOARD. IS THERE ANY WAY TO CUT? THE MOTOR WILL NOT RUN IF THE GUARD IS LIFTED .
