I have two of these models (my friends & my new one) and my devices have a LED labeled "check" not "connected." Ironically my problem is in diagnosing why it says check ALL of the time!

5 Yea they seem to update the manual with whatever they change on the unit before they actually change the unit. The check light means that it doesn't detect a battery. The voltage in the battery might be too low. While it's hooked up to a battery, try pushing the charge rate button and plugging it in at the same time.

5 No where in the manual does it specify which button should be pressed for "deep cycle". The manual only discusses the virtues of battery types, but does not say which mode to use for "deep cycle".

0 holding the charge rate button did allow the charger to go into charge mode with a completely dead battery.
