Question About Sears Air Compressor 919.167242
air compessor stopped running...

my sears craftsman air compressor which I haven't had any problems with in the past stopped running.I started compressor up, compressor ran fine for about 1 minute, then it sounded like it was bogging down, and smelled like it was smoking. I shut compressor down, let it cool, and tried to restart it. It wouldn't start. I opened up plastic cover, the motor is not ceased, and, there was no melted wiring. Also, compressor never popped circuit breaker. This compressor is stored in a dry garage, and still looks new.

0 Mine just quit working one day. I opened it up,a nd there was a wire loose. I connected it and the motor started (stupid me, forgot to unplug...), and now I have to replace the fan. It is no longer made...or available...If you have not gotten rid of it, I would pay you some $$$ for your fan. email me at ronnyballgame@gmail.com

0 I have the exact same problem withh my compressor yesterday. Let it cool, still won't work.

0 If it doesn't work, take the fan off of it and stick it in a padded envelope or box. I will send you $20 for it!

0 I have the Model 919.167242 It was rarely used and stored in the garage. Yesterday, it started smoking and won't start up again. I called Sears and they said I could pay $70 for someone to look at. I like how it lasted just under 4 years and I had a 3 year warranty on it. My dad uses his (same size) all the time with all kinds of air tools and he's had it for 17 years without a problem. Can the motor be replaced with the old tank or does it all go to the curb?

0 The acrid smoke is usually caused by one of the motor start capacitors going bad. This will cause a plume of smoke and then the motor will not start. Sears doesn't stock them as a part, but Fastenal and Grainger have them. They are located inside the two humps on the outside if the electric motor, their under $20 and easy to replace.
