InverterProtectionFeatures
TheREDLEDIndicatorlightwillturnonandtheinverterwillturnitselfoff automaticallywhen:
1. Thepowerinputfromthebatterydropsto9.5volts.(Whenthepowerinputdropsto10.5volts,analarmwill
soundforanextendedperiod).
2. Thepowerinputfromthebatteryexceeds
15.5volts.
3. Thecontinuousdrawoftheequipmentorappliancebeingoperatedexceeds200watts.
4. Thesurgedrawoftheequipmentorappliancebeingoperatedexceeds400watts.
5. Thecircuittemperatureexceeds165°F.

• Theinverterisequippedwithacoolingfanwh ichisdesignedtoruncontinuouslywhiletheinverteris
operating.Automaticshutdowncausedbyhighcircuittemperatureswilloccurwhenthecoolingfanis
unabletomaintainacoolenoughtemperatureforsafeoperationoftheinverter.
• Inthe
eventofautomaticshutdownorcontinuousaudiblealarm,turntheinverterrockerswitchtothe
OFF(0)positionuntilthesourceoftheproblemhasbeendeterminedandresolved.
HowPowerInvertersWork
There are two stages in which a power inverter changes the 12‐volt DC (or battery) power into 110V AC
(householdcurrent).
STAGE1:
TheinverterusesaDC‐to‐DCconvertertoincreasetheDCinputvoltagefromthepowersourceto145voltsDC.
STAGE2:
Theinverter
thenconvertsthehighvoltageDCinto110VAC(householdcurrent),usingadvancedMOSFET(Metal‐
oxide‐SemiconductorFieldEffectTransistor)transistorsinafullbridgeconfiguration.Thisdesignprovidesallour
inverters withthecapabilitytostartandrundifficultreactiveloa ds,whileprovidingexcellentoverloadcapability.
Thewaveformthatis
generatedbythisconversionisa"modifiedsinewave"asshowninthediagrambelow.
The modified sine wave produced by our inverters has a root mean square (RMS) voltage of 110 volts. The
majorityofACvoltmetersarecalibratedforRMSvoltageandassumethatthemeasuredwaveformwillbeapure
sinewave.Consequently, thesemeterswillnotread theRMS modified
sinewavevoltagecorrectlyand,when
measuringtheinverteroutput,themeterswillreadabout20to30voltstoolow.Toaccuratelymeasureofthe
