Head Adjustment
Proper adjustment of the head and column is
necessary to ensure that mortiser travel is
smooth and precise. Two bolts located at the
back of the head control the tightness of the head
and column. If movement of the head becomes
sloppy, tighten the bolts until the travel is smooth
and solid. Should the head movement become
too difficult, loosen the bolts until movement is
satisfactory. Figure 15.
Two setscrews mounted just forward of the bolts
ensure that side-to-side movement is minimal. If
head displays excess wiggle from side-to-side,
loosen the locknuts and tighten the setscrews
until movement is eliminated. Tighten the lock-
