Thank you for purchasing a Nikon Quick Charger MH-
16. The MH-16 is required to recharge the Ni-MH
battery pack EN-4 (Nickel-Metal Hydride) that powers
Nikon’s D1 series Digital Cameras. Maximum recharg-
ing time per EN-4 unit is approximately 90 minutes.
Refreshing (discharging) the battery takes approxi-
mately five hours per battery pack.
The MH-16 can also be used to recharge or refresh EN-
3 batteries for the E3/E3s digital camera and MN-15
batteries for the F100 film camera.

Notes on using the Quick Charger MH-16
• Before using the battery charger, read all instruc-
tions and cautionary markings on: (a) the
Quick
Charger MH-16, (b) the
Ni-MH
Battery Pack EN-4,
and (c) the D1 series Digital Cameras.
• Do not connect this unit to any equipment other than
that specified in this manual.
• Unplug the power cable from the AC outlet when
leaving the unit unattended.
• Do not short-circuit the charging/discharging plug.
• Do not expose the charger to direct sunlight, heat, or
flame.
Notes on using the Ni-MH Battery Pack EN-4
• Be sure to charge the battery pack fully before use.
•
The battery should be charged at an ambient tem-
perature of between +5°C and 35°C (41°F and 95°F).
• The battery may become hot during when used with
the camera. If you attempt to recharge the battery
while hot, the battery may not charge at all or may
not charge to full capacity. Recharge the battery
only after it has cooled.
• Do not recharge a battery pack that has already
been charged; this may adversely affect the battery’s
performance.
• It is recommended that the MH-16 Quick Charger be
used to refresh (discharge) the battery once each
twenty or thirty times it has been charged.
• Should you note that the EN-4 only holds a charge
for a very short period of time, you will need to buy
a new battery.
Important
• This instruction manual contains important informa-
tion on safety and general operation. Keep this
instruction manual in a safe place for future refer-
ence.
• If the Quick Charger malfunctions in any way, turn
OFF the power, and take the Quick Charger to a
Nikon-authorized service center.

Connect the power cable to
the Quick Charger, then plug
the power cable into an AC
power socket. The POWER
lamp on the Quick Charger
will light.

Connect the charging plug to
the battery’s DC connector to
begin charging. While the
battery is charging, the
CHARGE lamp on the Quick
Charger will light. The bat-
tery is fully charged when the
END lamp lights up.
✔ Caution: A flickering
CHARGE lamp indicates a
problem with the battery. Stop
charging immediately by un-
plugging the charging plug
from the battery.

Connect the charging plug to

Mit dem Schnelladegerät MH-16 laden Sie den Ni-MH-
Akku (Nickel-Metallhydrid-Akku) EN-4 für Ihre digitale
Nikon-Spiegelreflexkamera der serie D1. Die maxima-
le Ladezeit für den Akku EN-4 liegt bei 90 Minuten. Das
vollständige Entladen eines Akkus dauert ca. 5 Stun-
den.
Mit dem MH-16 lassen sich auch der Akku EN-3 für die
digitalen Kameras E3 und E3s und der Akku MN-15 für
die filmbasierte Kamera F100 laden und entladen.
Hinweise zur Verwendung des Schnellade-
geräts MH-16
• Bitte lesen Sie vor Verwendung des Schnellade-
geräts MH-16 alle Dokumentationen und Sicherheits-
hinweise a) zum Schnelladegerät MH-16, b) zum Ni-
MH-Akku EN-4 und c) zur Digitalkamera der serie
D1.
• Schließen Sie das Ladegerät nur an die in dieser
Anleitung genannten Akkus an.
• Ziehen Sie den Netzstecker, wenn das Ladegerät
unbeaufsichtigt ist.
• Achten Sie darauf, daß die Steckerpole nicht kurz-
geschlossen werden.
Hinweise zur Verwendung des Akkus EN-4
• Bevor Sie den Akku EN-4 zum ersten Mal verwen-
den, müssen Sie ihn vollständig aufladen.
• Die Umgebungstemperatur während des Ladevor-
gangs sollte zwischen +5 °C und +35 °C liegen.
• Der Akku erwärmt sich während des Betriebs in der
Kamera. Wenn Sie versuchen, einen warmen Akku
aufzuladen, kann es passieren, daß er sich gar nicht
aufladen läßt oder nicht die volle Kapazität erreicht
wird. Warten Sie mit dem Aufladen, bis der Akku
abgekühlt ist.
• Laden Sie den Akku nicht auf, wenn er bereits seine
volle Kapazität erreicht hat. Ein Überladen kann die
Leistung des Akkus herabsetzen.
• Nikon empfiehlt, den Akku mit dem Schnelladegerät
MH-16 nach jedem 20. bis 30. Ladevorgang einmal
vollständig zu entladen, bevor Sie ihn wieder aufla-
den.
• Wenn die Kapazität des Akkus trotz voller Aufladung
nur noch kurze Zeit anhält, benötigen Sie einen
neuen Akku.
Wichtig
• Diese Anleitung enthält wichtige Hinweise zur Si-
cherheit des Schnelladegeräts und seiner grundle-
genden Bedienung. Bewahren Sie sie gut auf, damit
Sie diese Hinweise auch in Zukunft schnell zur Hand

Verbinden Sie den Stecker

des Ladevorgangs leuchtet
die Ladeanzeige auf (CHAR-
GE). Sobald die Anzeige END
aufleuchtet, ist die volle Ka-
pazität des Akkus erreicht und
der Ladevorgang beendet.
✔ Achtung: Eine flackernde
Ladeanzeige (CHARGE) deu-
tet auf ein Problem mit dem
Akku hin. Stoppen Sie den
Ladevorgang, indem Sie die
Verbindung zwischen Akku
und Ladegerät trennen.

leuchtet die Entladeanzeige
(REFRESH).
Das Entladen ist abgeschlos-
sen, sobald die Entladean-
zeige (REFRESH) erlischt.
Anschließend schaltet das
Ladegerät automatisch auf
den Ladevorgang um, und die
Ladeanzeige (CHARGE)
leuchtet auf. Wenn Sie den
Akku nicht aufladen möch-
ten, müssen Sie nach dem
Entladen den Stecker vom
Akku abziehen.
✔ Achtung: Drücken Sie wäh-
rend des Lade- oder Entlade-
vorgangs nicht auf die
REFRESH-Taste. Andern-
falls könnte es passieren, daß
das Ladegerät den Ladevor-
gang abbricht und auf Entla-
den umschaltet bzw. den
Entladevorgang beendet und
mit dem Aufladen beginnt.
