5.5.7 Characterspacing
FX-850 emulationlets you control the amount of space inserted after
charactm, sometimescalledthe oflset. You mightwant,for example,to
justify a lineof printyourself.
With the CharacterSpacingcommandyou can add to the distanceeach
characteradvances,in incrementsof l/120thinch.Thecommanddoesnot
affectthe selectedpitch.
To adjustthecharacterspacing,sendthiscommand:
<ESC><S- n
<S~ is the ASCIISpacecharacter.For n you entera figwe that sets the
numberof l/120-inchincrementsby whichspacingis to increase.
Yourprinter cancelsthis commandwhenit receivesanotheroffset com-
mand.
5.5.8 Pitch
Youcanpnnt at 10,12,17 or20 charactemperinchwithyourlaserprinter’s
internalfonts.TheFX-850emulationdefaultis 10-pitch.Ifyouwantawider
pitchyoucanputtheprinterofflinefora secondandselecteither6.5or 8.1
charactersper inchon the controlpanel.
To select 12-pitch(oftencalled“elite”),yousendthiscommand:

After you givethis commandneithercondensednor extendedprintcom-
mandswillhaveanyeffect.
To turnoff 12-pitchandreturnto youroriginalcharacterspacing,sendthis
command:
<ESC>P
5.5.9 Condensedprint
Condensedprint (oftenc~ed “compassed”) is narrowerthan it is high,
whichmakesit goodforspreadsheets.Withoutchangingto anew font,you
can switchfrom 10-pitchto a condensedpitchof 17charactemper inch.
