FIGURE B
EXTENSION CORDS
1.
Grounded
tools require a three wire extension cord.
Double Insulated
tools
can use either a two or three wire extension cord.
2. Use only extension cords that are intended for outdoor use. These cords are
marked with the suffix ‘W-A’ (‘W’ in Canada) to indicate they are acceptable for
outdoor use. Always disconnect the extension cord from the receptacle before
disconnecting the tile saw from the extension cord.
3. Make sure your extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition.
Always replace a damaged extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified
electrician before using it.
4. Protect your extension cords from sharp objects, excessive heat, and damp or
wet areas.
5. As the distance from the supply outlet increases, you must use a heavier gauge
extension cord. Using extension cords with inadequately sized wire causes a
serious drop in voltage, resulting in loss of power and possible tool damage.
(See Figure C, next page.)
DOUBLE INSULATED TOOLS: TOOLS WITH TWO PRONG PLUGS
4. Tools marked “Double Insulated” do not require grounding. They have a special
double insulation system which satisfies OSHA requirements and complies with
the applicable standards of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., the Canadian
Standard Association, and the National Electrical Code. (See Figure B.)
5. Double insulated tools may be used in either of the 120 volt outlets shown in the
following illustration. (See Figure B.)
