Troubleshooting
Problem Possible Causes Likely Solutions
Compressor
does not start
or restart
No power at outlet. 1.
Power cord not plugged in 2.
properly.
Thermal overload switch 3.
tripped.
Building power supply circuit 4.
tripped or blown fuse.
Tank is already pressurized.5.
Cord wire size is too small or 6.
cord is too long to properly
power compressor.
Compressor needs service.7.
Reset circuit breaker, or have outlet serviced by a 1.
qualied technician.
Check that cord is plugged in securely. 2.
Turn off Tool. Turn off Compressor and wait for it to cool 3.
down. Turn the Compressor on. Resume operation.
Reset circuit or replace fuse. Check for low voltage 4.
conditions. It may be necessary to disconnect other
electrical appliances from the circuit or move the
compressor to its own circuit.
No problem. Compressor will start when needed.5.
Use larger gauge (thicker wire) and shorter extension 6.
cord or eliminate extension cord. See Recommended
Wire Gauge for Extension Cords in Safety section.
Have unit inspected by a qualied technician.7.
Compressor not
building enough
air pressure
Compressor not large 1.
enough for job.
Loose ttings. 2.
Hose or hose connections 3.
not adequate.
High altitude reducing air 4.
output.
Check Valve (105) needs 5.
service.
Check if accessory SCFM is met by Compressor. If 1.
Compressor cannot supply enough air ow (SCFM),
you need a larger Compressor.
Reduce air pressure, then check all ttings with a soap 2.
solution for air leaks and tighten as needed. Do not
overtighten.
Replace with larger hose and/or hose connections. 3.
You may need a larger compressor if you are 4.
situated in a high altitude location.
Have unit inspected by a qualied technician.5.
Overheating Unusually dusty 1.
environment.
Cord is too small of a 2.
gauge or too long to handle
compressor.
Unit not on level surface.3.
Compressor not large 4.
enough for job.
Move unit to cleaner environment. 1.
Use larger gauge (thicker wire) and shorter extension 2.
cord, or eliminate extension cord. See Recommended
Wire Gauge for Extension Cords in Safety section.
Reposition unit on a level surface.3.
Compressor is designed to cycle on and off. Continuous 4.
running will cause damage to compressor and indicates
compressor is too small for the application. Check if
accessory SCFM is met by Compressor. If Compressor
doesn’t reach accessory SCFM, you need a larger
Compressor.
Follow all safety precautions whenever diagnosing or servicing the
compressor. Disconnect power supply before service.
