3.3‐‐BatteryCompartment
The design ofa Zinc Air Prismatic battery compartment depends on several factors including battery
dimensions, battery orientation, and air flow needed to maintain power to the device.Other
considerationsaretheeaseofbatteryinsertionandremoval,contactmaterials,reversalprotection,and
theshapeandlocationofdevicecontacts.
Ingeneral,consumersshouldbeabletouseandreplaceZinc
Air Prismatic batteries in a similar fashion to AA and AAA replaceable batteries with no additional
actionsrequiredotherthanremovingthetabfromtheZincAirPrismaticbatterypriortouse.
EnergizerZincAirPrismaticbatteriesareelectrically
conductiveonallsurfaces,andflatbatterycontacts
arerecommended.Leafspringcontactsarepreferredovercoilspringsascoilspringsaremoreproneto
shorting.Positivecontactshouldbe madeatthe positive(+) cansidewallratherthanon theair hole
sideofthebatterytopreventunwantedair
flowrestrictionstotheairholes.Negativecontactshould
becenteredonthenegative(‐)cupbottom(nonairholesideofbattery)insuchawayastominimize
potential shor ting between the negative cup and the positive can sidewall.Figure 13 illustrates the
recommendedcontactsurfacesfor
ZincAirPrismaticbatteries.

Contact surfaces areashould be maximized to reduce contactresistance.Sufficient contact pressure
shouldalsobemaintainedtoensureconsistentelectricalconnectionbutnotsogreatastodeformthe
batterycontacts.Acontactforceintherangeofonehalftotwopoundsisrecommended.
