W1770 21" Bandsaw w/Foot Brake
SETUP
Blade Tracking
The blade tracking is primarily affected by the tilt of the
upper wheel, also known as "center tracking"; and the
alignment of both wheels, also known as "coplanar track-
ing." (For coplanar tracking, refer to the Wheel Alignment
instructions on Page 52.)
The wheels on this bandsaw were aligned at the factory,
so center tracking is the only adjustment that needs to be
performed when the saw is new.
To center track the blade, do these steps:
1. DISCONNECT BANDSAW FROM POWER!
2. Make sure the upper and lower blade guides are
adjusted away from the blade (refer to Adjusting
Blade Guide Bearings on Page 23).
3. Move the quick tension lever to the tightened
position (Figure 18) and turn the blade tension
handwheel (Figure 17) until the blade tension
matches the mark on the blade tension scale for the
appropriate blade width (refer to Page 22 to tension
the blade).
4. Open the upper wheel cover, then spin the upper
wheel by hand at least three times and watch how
the blade rides on the crown of the wheel through
the tracking window. Refer to Figure 19 for an illus-
tration of this concept.
If the blade rides in the center of the upper
wheel and is centered on the peak of the
wheel crown, then the bandsaw is already center
tracked properly and no further adjustments are
needed at this time.
If the blade does not ride in the center of the
upper wheel and is not centered on the peak of
the wheel crown, then continue with the follow-
ing steps.
5. Loosen the lock lever (Figure 18) so that the blade
tracking knob can rotate.
6. Spin the upper wheel with one hand and rotate the
blade tracking knob with the other hand to make the
blade ride in the center of the bandsaw wheel tire.
7. Tighten the lock lever and close the upper wheel
cover. Note: For the best performance from your
saw, regularly maintain proper tracking of the
blade.
NOTICE
Changes in the blade tension may
change the blade tracking.
