Removing and Installing the PCI Adapter Card
Step 6 Make sure the ejector tabs at both ends of the DIMM slots are pushed outward to the sides (open
position). (See location 1 in Figure 4-6 on page 4-11.)
Step 7 Holding the DIMM by the top edges, remove it from its anti-static package.
Caution Do not touch the DIMM connectors. Handle the DIMM only by the edges.
Step 8 Position the DIMM above the slot. Align the notch on the bottom edge of the DIMM with the key in the
DIMM slot. (See location 2 in Figure 4-6 on page 4-11.)
Step 9 Insert the bottom edge of the DIMM into the slot. (See location 3 in Figure 4-6 on page 4-11.)
Step 10 When the DIMM is correctly positioned, push down firmly on the top edge of the DIMM until the ejector
tabs snap into place. (See location 4 in Figure 4-6 on page 4-11.)
Step 11 Install the appliance cover. For instructions, see the “Installing the Cover” section on page 4-20.
Removing DIMMs
To remove a DIMM:
Step 1 Review the information in the “Safety Warnings” section on page x and the “Safety Guidelines” section
on page 2-2.
Step 2 Power down the appliance and all external devices. Disconnect the AC power cord or DC power source
and all external cables.
Step 3 Attach the antistatic wrist strap to your wrist and connect its cord to the ESD socket on the top, left-hand
side on the front of the appliance.
Step 4 Remove the appliance cover. For instructions, see the “Removing the Cover” section on page 4-3.
Step 5 Locate the DIMM slots. (See Figure 4-6 on page 4-11.)
Step 6 Open the ejector tabs on the DIMM slot by pushing them out to the sides. (See location 1 in Figure 4-6
on page 4-11.)
Step 7 Holding the DIMM by the edges, lift it straight up out of the slot, and store it in an antistatic package.
Step 8 Install the appliance cover. For instructions, see the “Installing the Cover” section on page 4-20.
Removing and Installing the PCI Adapter Card
Caution The PCI adapter cards are not hot-swappable. Before removing or replacing an adapter card, you must
first take the Cisco ADE 2130 and 2140 Series appliance out of service, turn off the appliance by
pressing the power button, disconnect all external cables, and unplug the AC power cord or DC power
source from the appliance.
This section describes how to install a PCI adapter card in the Cisco ADE 2130 and 2140 appliance.
