Horizontal Sanding
The steps below show you how to sand the face
of a basic workpiece.
Always wear a dust mask
and safety glasses when
operating this machine.
Sawdust may cause aller-
gic reactions or respiratory
problems.
Make sure loose clothing
and long hair is secured
and kept away from
moving parts.
To sand the face of a workpiece, do these steps:
1. Put your safety glasses and dust mask on,
start the dust collector and your sander.
2. Tilt platen from the vertical position to the
horizontal position and lock. See Figure 50.
3. Adjust the vertical belt tracking. Ref. Page 19.
4. Set the workpiece against the back stop and
on the table.
5. Carefully sand the workpiece so the grain fol-
lows the belt direction with even pressure back
and fourth along the back stop. See Figure 52.
Keep fingers away from
the sanding back stop
and belt. Otherwise, you
can be injured.

Make sure you adjust the vertical belt tracking.
DO NOT ignore this adjustment. Otherwise,
the belt can immediately run off the sander
when the sander is started and cause personal
injury.
