CUTTING CROWN MOLDING
Your compoundmiter saw does an excellentjobof
cuttingcrown molding.In general, compound miter
saws doa betterjob ofcuffingcrown moldingthan
any othertool made.
In orderto fitproperly,crown moldingmustbe com-
poundm/tared with extreme accuracy.
The twocontact surfaces on a piece of crownmolding
that fit fiatagainst the ceiling and the wall of a room
are at angles that, when added together,equal
exactly90°. Mcet crownmoldinghas a top rear angle
(thesectionthat fits fiat against theceiling) of 52° and
a bottomrear angle (the sectionthat fitsfiat against
the wall) of38°.

To use thismethod foraccurateiycuttingcrown
moldingfor a 90° insideor outsidecomer, laythe
moldingwith itsbroad beck surfacefiat onthe miter
table and againstthe fence.
When settingthe beval and miterangles forcom-
pound miters, rememberthatthe settingsare interde-
pendent;changingone anglechanges theother angle
as well.
Keep in mindthat the angles for crownmoldingsare
very preciseand difficulttoset. Since it isvery easy
for these angles to shift,all settingsshouldfirstbe
testedon scrap molding.Also mostwalls do nothave
anglesof exactly 90", therefore, you will needto fine
tune your settings.
