This chapter describes how to install and configure HP BenchLink/Arb to
run on your computer.
Before beginning the installation process, verify that your system meets
the following minimum requirements.
Equipment Required
Personal Computer Requirements
• IBM (or compatible) 386 or 486 PC.
• 3.5" 1.44 Mb floppy disk drive (high density).
• Microsoft compatible mouse (bus or serial).
• Color VGA or SVGA display.
• 4 MB memory.
• 1.4 MB free disk space (additional space is required for
storage of waveforms).
• Microsoft Windows version 3.1 or higher.
• Microsoft MS-DOS version 5.0 or higher.
• Either RS-232 or IEEE-488 (HP-IB/GPIB) interface
(as described below).
Computer Interface Requirements
IEEE-488 Interface Requirements. To use an IEEE-488 interface with
HP BenchLink/Arb you must have an HP-IB

cable (HP 10833X) and one
of the following IEEE-488 interface cards already installed in your
computer:
• HP 27209A HP-IB
• HP 82335A/B HP-IB
• National Instruments AT-GPIB
• National Instruments GPIB-PCII/IIA
RS-232 Requirements. To use RS-232 with HP BenchLink/Arb you
must have an RS-232 cable and an available Asynchronous Serial (COM)
port on your PC.
