TIGHTENING THE ARM AND COLUMN
See Figure 19.
There shouldbe no play, verticalor horizontal,in the
arm relative to the column.If you can movethe arm
up, down or sideways when )he arm lock is unlocked,
use the followingsteps to tightenthe arm.
Note: The arm shouldpivotonlywhen the arm lock
knobis unlockedand pulledforwardto com-
press the spring.
Usinga phillipsscrewdriver, remove the rear cover
screws (2) and rear cover from the back ofthe arm.
This uncoversthe belts on the column.
Tighten the top two belts evenly untilthe arm isfirm
and there is no verticalor horizontalmovement.
Alsocheckthe two bettom hex nuts. It isnot
necessary to tightenthem as tightas the upper
bolts. However they shouldbetightened even and
snug.
Replace the rear cover and rear cover screws.
Tighten screwssecurely.

ADJUSTING THE COLUMN TUBE
See Figures20A - 20D.
The purposeofthis procedure is tocheck whetherthe
inner columntube issnug in the housingand to
remove any looseness. Looseness could resultina
poor cut or difficultyin elevating the carriage.The
columntube isthe upper portion ofthe columnand
extends fromthe columnsupport.
Note: It iscriticalto remove all loosenesswiththis
procedure.Ifthis procedure isnot donecor-
rectly,following adjustmentswillbe wrongand
couldresultin machinedamage.
This procedurechecks beth the elevating actionand
the rotatingaction. If a check does not show loose-
ness, do not perform the adjustment.
Ifthe arm isnot at O"(straightforward), release the
arm lock knob,set the arm, and re-lock thearm
lockknob.
Elevationcheck:To check the elevationmovement,
placeyour handunder the frontof the radial arm.
Press upwardon the radialarm. There shouldbe
minimalplay between the column tube and the
column support.The wholeassembly shouldmove
as one. See Figure20A.
