SWITCH AND SWITCH KEY
See Figures 36-38.
The main power switch has been placedon thefront
ofthe arm for easy access. The yellowswitch key
prevents accidental startingof the main power switch
when saw is not being used. To activatethe switch,
insertthe switch key and lift switchto ON position. To
lockthe switchonce it has been pressedto OFF,
remove the yellow key. Place the key ina locationthat
isinaccessibleto children and othersnot qualifiedto
use the tool.

CAUSES OF KICKBACK
Kickbackcan occurwhen the blade stalls or binds,
kickingthe workpiece back towardyou with great
force and speed. Ifyour handsare near the blade,
they may bejerked loose and contactthe blade.
Obviously, kickbackcan cause serious injuryand it is
well worthusing precautionsto avoidthe dsks.
Kickbackcan be caused by any actionthat pinches
the blade in the wood, suchas the following:
Making a cutwith incorrectbladedepth
Sawing intoknotsor nailsin the workpiece
Twistingthe woodwhile makinga cut
Failingto supportwork
Forcinga cut
Cuttingwarped or wet lumber
Misusingthe saw
Not followingcorrectoperating procedures
Usingthe wrong blade forthe type ofcut
Cuttingwith a dull, gummed-up, or impropedyset
blade.
AVOIDING KICKBACK
Always use the correctblade depthsetting.The
outer point ofthe blade teeth shouldclear the lower
surface of theworkpiece by 1/8 in.to 1/4 in. when
makingthese cuts.
Inspectthe work for knotsor nails beforebeginning
a cut. Knockout any looseknotswith a hammer.
Never saw intoa looseknotor nail
Always use the fencewhen dp cutting.This helps
preventtwistingthe woodin the cut.
Always use clean, sharp, and properly-setblades.
Never make cutswith dullblades.
To avoid pinchingthe blade, supportthe work
propedybefore beginning a cut.
When makinga cut, use steady, even pressure,
Never force cuts.
Do not cutwet or warped lumber.
Always holdyourworkpiece firmlywith beth hands
or with pushsticks.Keep your bodyin a balanced
position to be ready to resist kickbackshouldit
occur. Never stand directly in linewiththe blade.
Usethe righttype of bladefor the cut being made.
Usethe rivingknifeand anti-kickbackpawlswhen
performingripcuts.
