PEEP Positive End Expiratory Pressure
Pressure Control
Ventilation (PCV)
Ventilation in which breaths are controlled by operator-dened
Pressure, Inspiratory Time, and Rise Time.
PS Pressure Support
Ramp A feature that may increase patient comfort when therapy is
started. The ramp feature reduces pressure and then gradually
increases the pressure to the prescription setting so patients can
fall asleep more comfortably.
Rise Time The Rise Time is the time it takes the ventilator to change from
expiration to inspiration.
RR Respiratory Rate (the number of breaths per minute).
SD Card Secure Digital card; This card records usage and therapy data
from the device.
Sigh A breath that is delivered every 100 mandatory or assisted
breaths at 150% of the normal volume.
SIMV Synchronous Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation therapy mode;
SIMV mode delivers Spontaneous, Assisted, and Mandatory
breaths with a user-dened inspired tidal volume. This is a
Volume Control mode.
Sleep State A low-power state entered when the ventilator is running on the
internal or detachable battery and the blower has been o for
ve minutes. This state preserves battery power. The device is
restored by plugging the unit into AC power, inserting an SD card,
or by pressing the Start/Stop button.
Spontaneous Breath Breath type in which the breath is patient-triggered.
