4 Operating the Power System
54 Series N6700 User’s Guide
Output channel turn-on characteristics vary across the three module
types - DC Power, Autoranging, and Precision (Refer to Appendix D
for more information). When output channels of the same module
type are programmed off-to-on, output sequencing is precisely
determined by the programmed turn-on delays.
When outputs of different module types are sequenced, there may be
an additional offset of a few milliseconds from one output to another.
This offset is the same for each module type and is repeatable. Once
you have characterized this offset, using an oscilloscope for example,
you can adjust the programmed delays to compensate for the offset
and give the desired output sequencing.
Outputs within the same module type can also have an offset if one
model has output relays (Option 761) and another does not. These
offsets are also repeatable and can be compensated by adjusting the
programmed delay values.
Program the Output Relays
Programmable output relays are available on power modules with
Option 760 or Option 761. Option 761 provides double-pole, double-
throw relays that disconnect both the output and sense terminals.
Option 760 is the same as option 761 but adds output reversal relays.
If you have Option 761 installed, the normal operating mode of the
relay is to open and close as the output is turned on or off. The relays
are only opened or closed when the output is at a safe state (zero
voltage; zero current). Note however, that you can program the
output state on or off while leaving the relay state unchanged.
Front Panel: SCPI Command:
Not Available To leave the relays closed when output 1 is turned off:
OUTP OFF,NOR,(@1)
To leave the relays open when output 1 is turned on:
OUTP ON,NOR,(@1)
If you have Option 760 installed, you can also reverse the polarity of
the output and sense terminals. Note that this command briefly turns
the output off while the output and sense terminal polarities are
switched. Also note that if this option is installed in Model N6742B,
the maximum output current will be limited to 10A.
Front Panel: SCPI Command:
Select Output\Polarity.
Then check the Reverse box.
Uncheck the Reverse box to
return the polarity to normal.
To switch the output and sense terminal
polarities of output 1:
OUTP:REL:POL REV,(@1)
To return the polarities back to normal:
OUTP:REL:POL NORM,(@1)
NOTE
When the output polarity has been reversed, the voltage meter on the front
panel display will show a bar over the voltage reading:
10.001V
