Installing for the First Time
30 PATROL DashBoard User Guide
Installing for the First Time
Before You Begin
■ You first should install on a limited number of machines in the test environment,
test the installation thoroughly, and then install in your production environment.
■ If you plan to export data to a database, ensure that the database to which you
want to export data has been created.
■ Close all applications and disable any antivirus programs as well as any screen
savers that may be running. This is necessary to free memory to facilitate the
installation, and to avoid conflicts between the installation and other programs.
■ If you are installing in a Unix environment, this installation requires an X11
environment. The PATROL DashBoard setup GUI is compliant with the X11
standard. If the X11 environment is available on the PATROL DashBoard server
computer, you can install from that computer. Otherwise, you must install from a
remote computer that has the X11 environment. If you are installing from a remote
computer, you must create a display environment variable by entering the
export
DISPLAY=
name:0 command from a Unix console, where name is the name of the
remote computer. If you do not do this, the installation of PATROL DashBoard will
fail.
