community name
The password used to query an SNMP agent. Separate Read (R) and Write (W) community
names may be defined for some devices.
Congestion
A PATROL DashBoard indicator that reports the congestion level of a DLCI interface.
Congestion occurs when the offered load exceeds the capacity of the interface.
Control Panel
A feature of PATROL DashBoard that controls product registration and configures data export,
SNMP trap handling, and backup operations.
CoS
See Class of Service (CoS).
CRC Errors
A PATROL DashBoard indicator that reports the number of corrupted packets detected on
interfaces.
data link connection identifier (DLCI)
A Frame Relay connection link.
depth
The number of successive routers whose routing tables are read by PATROL DashBoard during
a router discovery.
device
In PATROL DashBoard, a network node that has an SNMP agent, with which PATROL
DashBoard manages the node. A switch, a router, and a hub are examples of a device.
discovery
A process that detects and attempts to identify the devices of a network.
DLCI
See data link connection identifier (DLCI).
DNS
See Domain Name System (DNS).
domain
The logical grouping of several network devices. These devices may be, for instance, located in
the same part of a network, based on the same networking technology (ATM, Frame Relay,
ISDN and so forth) or managed by a given department of a company.
Domain Name System (DNS)
The distributed database that handles mapping of domain names to Internet Protocol (IP)
addresses.
