ACNM

ADSL
See asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL).
applet
A program written in the Java TM programming language that can be included in an HTML
page, much in the same way an image is included.
Application Centric Network Management (ACNM)
The name for the BMC Software line of network management products.
application response time (ART)
The elapsed time between sending an inquiry to an application and receiving a response. In
PATROL DashBoard, ART is the measured interval between an RMON2 probe and a remote
entity.

asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL)
A technology for transmitting digital information at a high bandwidth on existing phone lines
to homes and businesses. Unlike dialup phone service, ADSL provides a continuously available,
“always on” connection. ADSL is asymmetric in that it uses most of the channel to transmit
downstream to the user and only a small part to receive information from the user.
asynchronous transfer mode (ATM)
A technology of transferring information within 53-byte cells.
ATM

backup
An operation in which the PATROL DashBoard statistical data is saved. A backup can be
performed automatically at a given frequency (period). It can be either exhaustive or
incremental.
