Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
A set of standards for network management. Its second version is referenced as SNMPv2 and
described in RFC 1902 to 1908.

SLAM
See Service Level Agreement Manager (SLAM).
SMTP
See Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP).
SNMP

SNMP manager
In PATROL DashBoard, the network management platform (for example, HP/OV, CA/TNG,
ISM/OM) that receives SNMP traps. Trap handling is configured in the PATROL DashBoard
Control Panel.
STM
See Synthetic Transaction Monitor (STM).
Synthetic Transaction Monitor (STM)
An external module with which PATROL DashBoard can interface to integrate its built-in
metrics, such as threshold monitoring and advanced diagnostics.
switch
A device that interconnects networks and forwards frames from one network to another, based
on link layer information.
TCP
See Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).
telnet
An underlying TCP/IP protocol for accessing remote computers from a terminal; also, the
command for using the protocol.
threshold
The limit of an indicator, either above or below a median value; the value that must be exceeded
to cause an action or elicit a response, such as a trap or a notification.
threshold crossing
A reference to an indicator exceeding a threshold.
