Thiscommandenables/disablesmessageloggingatvaryingseveritylevelsforspecified
destinations.RefertoAppendixAintheXSRUser’sGuideforalistofmostrouteralarmsand
events.Normally,onlyHIGHseverityalarmsareloggedtoredflagcriticaleventsandthose
requiringoperatorintervention.TheDEBUGalarmlevel
ismeantformaintenancepersonnel
only.
TheXSRmaydiscardLOWandDEBUGlevelalarmsifthesystemistoooccupiedtodeliverthem.

LogGen Functionality
ThefileoptionpermitsloggingtoapersistentalarmfileonaCompactFlashcardforHIGHor
MEDIUMalarmsonly.IfnoCompactFlashcardisinstalled,persistentloggingisnotperformed.
TheroutercopiesmessagesfromtheloggingbufferinRAMtothecflash:fileloggenonceper
second.Ifpower
totheXSRislost,thealarmhistoryispreservedinloggen.WhentheXSRcomes
upagainitcopiesthehistoryfromloggenbackintotheRAMbuffer.Theentirelogginghistoryis
availableincludingalarmsbeforeandafterpowerdown.
TheXSR’sLogGenfunctionalitydeclaresamessageflood
iftoomanyoutstandingmessagesare
reportedbyothersoftwaremodulesintherouter.LogGenthentemporarilyquitsreportingonthe
ConsolesouserscankeepaccesstotheCLI.MessagesareloggedtotheRAMbufferonly,andare
graduallyreportedtoallotherenableddestinations.Themessagefloodends
whenLogGen
reducesthenumberofoutstandingmessagesbelowthedefinedthreshold.
